## Provenance Architecture

Synterminal enforces provenance from the first record. SHA-256 hash at ingest. RFC 3161 trusted timestamp from a third-party timestamp authority. UUID v5 deterministic identity — the same entity always produces the same identifier. Append-only write-ahead log — no record is overwritten, no record is deleted. Merkle tree per vertical for corpus integrity. Bi-temporal timestamps enforce valid time (when the event occurred) and transaction time (when it was recorded). Point-in-time correctness is enforced from day one, not retrofitted. Every finding Synterminal produces is traceable to its source, timestamped, and independently verifiable. When intelligence needs to become evidence — in a negotiation, a supplier dispute, or a courtroom — the chain of custody is intact.

## Invoice Forensics Service

Invoice forensics is the line-by-line comparison of supplier invoices against approved quotes, purchase orders, and commodity market pricing to identify six categories of billing discrepancy: price versus quote gaps, SKU substitutions, quantity discrepancies, duplicate charges, algorithmic price creep, and unquoted spend.

**The six overcharge patterns Synterminal finds:**

Pattern 01 — Price versus Quote Gap: The invoiced unit price is above the agreed quote. Small per line, invisible individually, significant across twelve months of supplier history. The supplier's billing system updates. The approved quote does not.

Pattern 02 — SKU Substitution: Same product description — 94 to 99 percent text similarity — different SKU, one grade up, price multiplier of 3 to 29 times that is not proportional to the actual cost difference. The description looks identical. The price is not.

Pattern 03 — Quantity Discrepancy: Billed for more units than ordered or delivered. Volume is the cover — the discrepancy is sized to survive a manual review and compounds across dozens of deliveries.

Pattern 04 — Duplicate Charge: The same item charged twice, sometimes weeks apart, buried in invoice volume. Designed to look like a clerical error if caught, not a pattern. Full invoice history held simultaneously is the only way to find it.

Pattern 05 — Algorithmic Price Creep: Small incremental increases — 2, 4, 7 percent — applied month by month as the supplier's pricing system updates. No single invoice shows the damage. The trajectory across twelve months does.

Pattern 06 — Unquoted Spend: Items billed with no agreed price on record. The supplier sets the number unilaterally. In one live engagement 74.9 percent of total line items had no quoted price — $125,869 at supplier-set prices.
